|
On May 8, 2008 the new Venture Acceleration Initiative (VAI) at UC Santa Barbara received a Special Recognition award at the annual "Goleta's Finest" awards ceremony put on by the Goleta Valley Chamber of Commerce. The event, now in its 60th year, was hosted at the Bacara Resort and Spa in Goleta.
VAI received the award in recognition of the importance of its role in accelerating university start-ups on the economic development of the Goleta community. The award was accepted by Dr. Don Oparah, Founder and Director of the program. In his acceptance speech, Don acknowledged the strong leadership of the Dean of the College of Engineering, Matthew Tirrell in championing VAI and recognizing the importance of collaboration between the university and the local business community.
Don and the rest of the VAI team are grateful to all the members of our campus who have contributed their time and energy over the last year and a half to support the growth of the new program.
